Are you up to it?

Compass has decided to do something a little bit different from the usual big monthly event this year.

We invite all members of the VATPAC and VATNZ communities to join with us for a new concept, the Compass Monthly Challenge. Each month the Compass management team will choose an airport somewhere around the world. They'll all be challenging. We will even make it a bit harder from time to time by adding extra dimensions to the challenge (like make sure the ceiling is down to 100' and there is a big crosswind)

There will be no set date to complete the challenge, you're free to fly it on any day that month, you can even have multiple cracks at it. Anyone can take part and then simply upload your screen shots and FS videos of your efforts to the Compass forums (there is a special Monthly Challenge forum in the events section). We'll have open voting on which is the best shot and video. You don't even have to be a Compass pilot to take part, simply register for the forums and join in.

If you are new or unfamiliar with how to take screenshots or videos then have no fear, one of our gurus has created a great giude on how to take screenshots.

Timings

The montlhy challenge will be announced around the 1st of each month. Pilots can then fly the challenge as many times as they like that month. Take as many screen shots and make as many videos of your efforts as you can. Post your screen shots and videos to the special challenge forum. We'll select the best and then there will be open voting on the forum for two weeks, the winning images will be posted to the Challenge Gallery. If you're not a Compass member, no problems, but you'll still have to register for our forums to post and vote. If you can't bring yourself to register, but would like to submit an image or video then email it to c......@compass-virtual.net

Feb/Mar Challenge - Able was I ere I saw Elba (LIRJ)

What is it about islands and difficult approaches?

This month we visit the Isle of Elba in the Mediterranean. February 26 marks the anniversary of Napoleon's escape from Elba and the start of the "100 Days" prior to his eventual defeat at Waterloo. Due to factors outside my control and the late start we'll run this over the next six weeks till the end of March.

This one is a suggestion by Compass pilot Josh Hick, and it features a long curving approach through the coastal hills to get to the runway. You must complete the approach to RWY 16, 34 just doesn't cut it (although a departure on 34 is almost as interesting)

Scenery - AVSIM has both the airport and a water texture replacement for FS9. There is also some photo real scenery for the islands in the whole area, not sure what it does for the airport, or if they are compatible though.

Charts - Josh has located some here.

Future Challenges

We'll announce the next challege at the end of the month. Next month it's back to the snow!
