Welcome to Compass Airlinessmall logo

Welcome!

Welcome to Compass! We are an Australian & New Zealand based Virtual Airline seeking to replicate the varied operations of a major airline. We cover a wide variety of operations from long haul international flights based out of Australia and New Zealand to the Pacific, South East Asia, the Middle East, Europe Africa and the Americas, right down to short regional hops.  We also have a fully developed domestic routes along major trunk routes throughout Australia and New Zealand. Two allied divisions, Compass Express and Compass Logistics provide regional and cargo services.

Fancy a year long party?

We started Compass back in 2001, and although there were some private testing behind the scenes for a number of months we went public with the airline on 10 September 2001, so we celebrate that day as our official Birthday.

Most will be aware that 10 years is a very long time for a virtual airline. Most do not last more than a few years and a very large number fold within a few months of opening. As a result we are pretty proud that we've been going strong for the past 9 years and that we'll keep on going strong for a good many years yet.

We decided that we couldn't let such a significant milestone go unmarked. As a result we've planned a year long celebration of our first decade. The management team have spent long hours plannng something special that we hope all Compass pilots will enjoy, and that all of our many firends in the VATSIM community will join with us as we host a monthly series of events from 11 Sep 2010 through to 10 Sep 2011 to celebrate our airlines 10th year. The final event, on our 10th birthday will mark the start of our second decade and the years events promise to be a great series of flights. The third flight in the series will be on 20 Nov 10 and will be from Auckland to Vancouver, a long trans-Pacific flight.. This flight is part of our year long series of long haul epics to mark our tenth year of operations. You can get to the special page detailing the flights here or by clicking on The Long Haul button in the left hand menu bar from any page in the website.

Happy Birthday to Us!

Our 10th Birthday bash concludes today, Saturday (Australian) time, Friday evening for Matt and others in the UK.

2200Z Fri 09 Sep 11 (0800 Sat 10 Sep11 AEST) sees our ultimate flight - Dubai to Sydney. The Long Haul page has all the details.

See you there!

VATSIM

VATSIM matters to us. We are proud to have been a VATSIM affiliate since our inception. As soon as we were eligible we signed on and we've been on board ever since. We encourage our pilots to participate in VATSIM events around the world and wee participate fully in our two home divisions, VATPAC and VATNZ.

And now we are ten VATSIM have honoured us in return. We are now one of the very few "Heritage VAs" who have clocked up 10 years affiliation with VATSIM. There aren't many, and we're proud to be among them.

Just remember, file those flight reports as soon as you fly your flights. We don't want to slip off this list for a silly administrative error.

Operations Manual

Compass is proud to release our long awaited Operations Manual. This document has been a long time coming but it is finally at a stage where it can be made available to the Compass community. It covers all the basics that our crews require to conduct their day to day operations. The breadth of knowledge it covers is remarkable from the very basics all the way up to such things as preferred alternates during prolonged over ocean flights, fuel reserve policy, stable approaches, QFE operations in Russian and Chinese airspace, and much much more. All in all, 64 pages of quality material that no Compass pilot can afford to do without. You can find the manual on our Manuals Page.
