Bula!

Compass turns six years old on the 10th of September, 2007. The day marks six years since Compass started a new direction in virtual aviation in Australia and the Pacific. We invite the entire virtual aviation community to join us to help celebrate this milestone in our history with "Bula!", a major fly-in based on Nadi in Fiji, one of the many destinations on the Compass network and the crossroads of the Pacific, which is one of the major areas of our virtual operations.

Compass is also pleased that a number of other members of the virtual aviation community will be joining us for the event. In particular we are thrilled that our joint hosts Air Pacific Virtual will be continuing their virtual operations and that we will continue to fly alongside the "Island in the sky"

We also welcome the support shown to the event by fellow members of the virtual aviation community who will be joining us. We've also had strong support from VATNZ and VATPAC and we are expecting to have a good range of air traffic control services provided for the duration of the event.

Timings

Operations are expected to take place throughout the day of Sunday 9th Sep 2007. We urge pilots taking part to plan their flight so their arrival or departure from Nadi falls between 0900 and 1300 UTC

Routes

The following routes can be used for flights to or from Nadi (NFFN). The listed routes are for flights inbound to Nadi. Except where otherwise shown, the reverse route can be used for outbound flights.

Nadi is the major international airport in Fiji.  At night, landing is prohibited on runways 20 and 27 and takeoff prohibited on runway 09. One prominent feature of operations at Nadi is the regular use of SODROPS (Simultaneous Opposite Direction Runway OPerations). This means that RWY 02 is used for landing and RWY 20 is used for takeoff. Hopefully our approach controller for the evening will liven things up by employing this mode of operation. When SODROPS are in force aircraft should anticipate a holding requirement as the number of departures and arrivals that can be accomodated in this mode is limited.
